To want

Ambition. Defined as "a strong desire to of or achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work”. So basically, ambition is wanting something enough to take action to do it.
In the past, I never really understood what this meant. It was just a word vaguely known to me that had no importance. I thought it was just a goal and goals weren’t very important to me. I thought that things in life came fairly easy and nothing was very hard but I have found that I was wrong. I have found that ambition, is one of the single most important things in life.

Now, if you don't know already, I recently read a book called I am The Messenger. The book is about a guy who gets messages from someone telling him where to go and what he has to do. The main character's name is Ed and he's a very simplistic guy. Well, that's beside the point. Anyways, Ed has a friend and his name is Ritchie. Ritchie is young with no job, no achievements, and lives with his parents. Basically the definition of a boring guy. Now, there was one chapter in this book that made me understand the importance of ambition on a whole other level.
In this chapter, Ed is talking to Ritchie. His eyes are black and empty, He listens to a show every night over the radio despite anything that it says the radio is used primarily for noise. In this chapter, Ritchie explains to Ed that there is nothing he wants in life. He hasn’t got a job and he’s a disgrace to himself. He tells Ed that there is only one thing he wants, and that is to want. Ed then looks at Ritchie and sees himself.

Everyone has a goal but not everyone has ambition. The difference between goal and ambition is goals, are just something that you would like to do whereas, ambition is something you want to do and actually work to achieve it.

Ambition- to go out and do (theschoollife)
In volleyball, lets just say that it was a very rough season. Many days we went home defeated from tournaments without winning a single game. I have just recently figured out what our problem was. Our attitude and ambition to get better in volleyball wasn't there. We all took things way to personally and didn't have a goal to get better and didn’t work hard enough. To be honest we didn’t really care. We didn’t care about how we played, if we won, or if we got better and thats what killed us. You need to want it so badly that it hurts and thats when you will get it. That’s ambition.

This brings me into how ambition goes along with attitude. If you want to achieve something, you can be constantly putting yourself down and saying you can’t do it. You need to stay positive and believe that you can do and that is how you will accomplish your goals. Not having ambition is keeping you from your full potential.

Basically the point of this blog was to let my reader know that you can’t only have a goal. You need ambition for it. You need a good attitude and then you can go out and achieve it. And as it is said, a
mbition is the path to success.
